Time Traveller: Mountain man Don Munday lived in a cabin on Grouse

Munday was hired to help build a highway up Grouse Mountain, and the family hosted visitors and sold refreshments at Alpine Lodge

In the early-1920s, plans were made to build a highway up Grouse Mountain. Knowing that experienced mountaineers were needed to help forge the trail, Don Munday was hired by Grouse Mountain Highway and Scenic Resort Ltd. to assist the build.

As part of his effort, a temporary cabin named Alpine Lodge was built atop the mountain where the Mundays were allowed to live, as well as host visitors and sell refreshments.

When they left the company in 1926, they left their mountain home as well. Visit the feature exhibit Found in the Mountains at MONOVA to learn more mountain history.
