Charles Heaney was born in Woolwich, England in 1880. He arrived in Canada in 1907 working first as a bookkeeper and then a surveyor, and joined the British Columbia Mountaineering Club shortly after.

In 1916 Charles married Gwladys Elliott and the couple set up house in Kitsilano, but spent much of their time climbing on the North Shore. He served as president of the BCMC from 1919-1922.

Here he is photographed in 1918 on a BCMC climbing trip to the Sunshine Coast. Charles Heaney died in 1971 in Vancouver. His photographs are part of the BCMC Collection at the MONOVA Archives.
