At the end of the First World War, North Vancouver held several war trophies in commemoration of the efforts of our veterans in the war.
The trophies included two captured German 77 mm field guns, and four German machine guns. The field guns were stationed in Victoria Park as part of their War Memorial, however the machine guns were kept by several veteran associations.
In 1942, in the heat of the Second World War, the machine guns were returned to a local salvage officer to be repurposed as artillery in the war effort at the request of Ottawa’s Salvage Officer.
