North Shore News reader Ron Penwill sent in this great photo of Streetcar No. 153 heading towards its final stop inside the under-construction Museum of North Vancouver at 115 West Esplanade.
Penwill said he was awoken by a noise at about 2 a.m. this morning and looked out his window to see crews manoeuvering the streetcar into its new home. It took approximately two hours to get the streetcar into the new Museum of North Vancouver building, according to a City of North Vancouver official, with a crew of five workers, one tractor trailer, one crane and one pickup truck accomplishing the task without any hiccups.
The streetcar was painstakingly restored under the bleachers at Fen Burdett Stadium after being recovered from a farmer's field. It made a final ride earlier this week, joining North Vancouver's Canada Day parade on the back of a flatbed truck.
Streetcar No. 153 will be one of the centrepiece items in the new museum which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020. Click here for more information about the restoration process.
