The original North Vancouver City Fire Hall No. 1 was stationed in Lower Lonsdale on Fourth Street and St. Georges. In 1910, the fire hall purchased two sorrel Percheron horses named Tom and Jerry.
These horses were well treated and trained. When the fire bell rang, an automatic system was designed to pull a lever to the stable doors to let the horses out where they would station themselves in front of the fire wagon.
That impressive horsepower made it efficient for the firemen to spring into duty in just 14 and a half seconds.
