Letter: To the driver who ran the red light

Both of our lives would have been very different if I hadn’t sensed you were coming, letter writer says

Are you the driver who ran the red light around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8 at the Westview highway overpass? You were coming north up Westview Drive and I was going to turn left from the highway exit to go south on Westview.

I noticed you had an N on your car. Were you chasing the car ahead of you that sped through just as the light changed? I would like to think you are aware of the consequences your actions could have caused. I was just about to make my turn onto Westview Drive because the light had changed in my favour when you sped through.

Both of our lives would have been very different if I hadn’t sensed you were coming. There was no way to see you with the overpass railing and the speed at which you were travelling.

Let me tell you how grateful I felt to be going home to my family and not having them coming to the hospital to see my wrecked body, or worse.

I wish you many happy years of driving, like I have had the privilege of enjoying. Driving should never be taken for granted.

Drive safe, my new driver friend. Many of us are counting on you.
