A little scratch led to a heap of cash for one lucky North Vancouver gambler.
After years of plunking down ten bucks a week on scratch and win tickets, Katarina Burgess recently pocketed $675,000 on a $5 Set For Life ticket.
“It feels a little surreal,” she said, explaining she routinely spent $10 a week on tickets.
The odds against hitting the jackpot are 508,333.33 to one.
“It’s not something I ever thought was going to happen,” she admitted.
Burgess had just caught up on some work at the office on a Sunday afternoon when she scratched the ticket.
“I’m glad I scratched it after, I think; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have got my work done,” she said with a laugh.
Staring at the winner, she said she felt a mix of shock and disbelief.
Rather than choosing $1,000 a week for 25 years, which adds up to $1.3 million, Burgess opted to take the balloon payment, explaining she wanted to pay down some debt.
Burgess said she’s planning a family holiday.
