THEY were fast and now they're furious.

West Vancouver police impounded eight souped-up import vehicles late Friday night after the group was spotted cruising at 140 kilometres per hour on Sea to Sky Highway and Highway 1.

A witness called Squamish RCMP to report the speed demons near Furry Creek around 11: 30 p.m., but they were too far from local units.

"As luck would have it, Air 1 (Lower Mainland traffic safety helicopter) was up and our patrol team guys got up on the highway while Air 1 was monitoring," said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver Police Department spokesman.

West Vancouver police issued excessive speed violation tickets to all eight drivers and impounded their whips for seven days.

Five of the vehicles are Nissan 240SX models ranging from 1989 to 1997 model years. Police also impounded a 1989 Nissan Skyline, a 1992 Toyota MKII and a 2000 Acura Integra. All vehicles appeared to be fitted with varying stages of high-performance modifications.
