QUESTION

Every night that I drive I think of all the vehicles that pass me by with just one head light.

I worked it out to be approximately one in 50 vehicles that don't know of or don't bother to repair the problem - not to mention tail lights.

Why don't you spend one night a week or two on a main road pulling over vehicles with just one head light?

It would be so easy that it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Officers regularly stop defective vehicles and issue either a ticket or a repair notice called a "notice and order."

A driver who fails to repair a vehicle that has been issued a notice and order can receive a fine of $500.

We take vehicle safety seriously and issue many of these throughout each year. I'm not sure spending one or two nights a week on a main road looking for burnt-out headlights would be the best "bang for our buck" in using our resources to enhance road safety, but burnt headlights certainly are addressed at the frequent drinking driving roadchecks we conduct throughout North Van every week.

Thanks for your e-mail. We always appreciate hearing from the public.
