The cauldron, used for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, in Vancouver downtown at Jack Poole Plaza, will be relit for a couple of hours on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, to mark the start of the Paris Paralympic games.

Vancouver's iconic Olympic cauldron will be lit once again in honour of the games going on in Paris.

But only for a short time.

On Aug. 28, the day the Paralympic Games start in the French capital, Vancouver's own cauldron, the three gigantic pillars at Jack Poole Plaza, will be temporarily relit.

The cauldron was recently relit at the beginning of the Paris 2024 Olympics earlier this summer.

"This event will honour the incredible achievements and resilience of Paralympians and Invictus competitors, while sparking excitement for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games and upcoming Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025," reads a press release from the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), which runs the plaza.

Along with the torch lighting, there will be several speakers, including Paris breakdancing gold medallist Phil Wizard.

"Experience the cauldron's magnificent glow," reads the press release, which indicates Vancouver's Olympic flame will burn only between 3 and 5 p.m. Wednesday.
