North Vancouver RCMP are asking for witnesses to come forward after a man was arrested for an alleged unprovoked assault on a flagger last week.
Local Mounties responded to reports of an assault near the intersection of Marine Drive and Lloyd Avenue in North Vancouver on March 20 around 8:30 a.m.
Police say a flagger was on the job when he was approached by a male who asked for a lighter. When the flagger was unable to provide one, the man allegedly assaulted the worker, according to a media release.
RCMP came to the scene, found the suspect nearby and arrested him.
The flagger faced minor injuries from the assault but didn’t require hospitalization, said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, media relations officer for North Vancouver RCMP.
“This was a frightening and unsettling incident for the victim as it was an unprovoked assault,” Sahak said. “We’re not quite sure what the motive is for the assault, but regardless, this was an assault on a stranger and it’s concerning to the police.”
Given the time of the incident and the busy intersection, Sahak said he hopes there would be many witnesses in the area.
The suspect is from the Lower Mainland and the victim is a man from North Vancouver, Sahak said.
Police ask anyone who was in the area between 8:20 to 8:35 a.m. on March 20 or has a video of the incident to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file 25-5511.
