BC Emergency Health Services and Squamish RCMP have confirmed a man died following a drowning incident in Porteau Cove Provincial Park on Saturday morning.
“Two ambulances were dispatched, one with advanced care paramedics and one with primary care paramedics and were on scene at 10:51 a.m,” said a Provincial Health Services Authority spokesperson.
“Two supervisors and a [Critical Care Program] helicopter were also dispatched. No one was transported to hospital,” they said.
Squamish RCMP also responded to the incident.
“Bystanders and first responders attempted life saving measures but unfortunately the man died at the scene,” reads a Squamish RCMP news release.
“Officers determined that there was no criminality and have turned the investigation over to the BC Coroner Service.”
The RCMP have notified the man’s next of kin of his passing.
The man’s identity is not being released.
“Squamish RCMP would like to thank all those who assisted in the rescue attempt,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, an RCMP spokesperson,
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of this man during this tragic incident."
