It has been almost a month since North Vancouver father, husband, friend and kiteboarder, Gray Taylor died while kiting at Squamish’s new oceanfront park on Canada Day.

Following his passing, the District launched an investigation into the incident, in partnership with the Squamish Windsports Society.

In the meantime, the watersports beach at Sp'akw'us Feather Park has been closed to kiting.

The District told The Squamish Chief on July 30 that the work to finalize an investigation into the factors that contributed to the fatality is still underway.

"The work is expected to extend through most of August and a public statement to communicate any next steps will be shared upon completion," said a District spokesperson in an emailed statement.

"District staff continue to work in consultation with the Squamish Windsports Society as subject matter experts. The District would like to thank the kiteboarding community for respecting the closure while we do this important work."
