The presence of a hazmat team in North Vancouver on Monday turned out to be an open and shut case, police say.
At around 1 p.m. in the afternoon, a tangle of police tape shut off public access to some of the 100 block of 14th Street East in the Central Lonsdale neighbourhood.
A hazmat truck and several responders in heavy gear with breathing tanks could be seen investigating an object on the street.
North Van RCMP spokesperson Const. Mansoor Sahak said a suspicious package was brought to the detachment.
“The hazmat team was called in to look at the suspicious item,” he said.
The package was a briefcase that someone had brought in as a found item, Sahak said. But the office desk was closed as it was a holiday.
The briefcase had a suspicious powder inside, he added.
It turned out to be “nothing nefarious,” Sahak said.
