As we do in every election cycle, we have asked the candidates running in all three North Shore ridings a series of key questions about how their parties would govern and what impact they could have on the community.
Their responses are posted below, in alphabetical order by candidate’s surname.
Liberal Party of Canada
Name: Terry Beech
Age: 44
Do you live in the riding?
Yes. I first moved into the riding to attend SFU 23 years ago. I met my wife there, and Ravi and I have been together for almost 20 years.
Tell us who you are outside of politics:
I’m Ravi’s husband, and Nova and Solar’s Dad. I’m an entrepreneur and an educator. I’ve built businesses and nonprofits while teaching business at SFU and UBC. I studied Public Admin at Capilano, Economics and Business at SFU and an MBA at Oxford.
How would your government cut Canada’s carbon emissions in the next term?
This year is the first year that Canada has ever grown the economy while reducing emissions at the same time. I have documented our work on Climate Change and on protecting our natural environment in a 33-page report available at TerryBeech.ca/environment.
How would your government make housing more affordable in the next term?
The government neglected housing for 30 years before launching the National Housing Strategy in 2017. While we created thousands of units in our community, it’s not enough. Mark Carney’s industrial housing strategy will create jobs and double new construction.
How would your government protect Canada’s economy in Trump’s trade war?
We’ll invest in Canadians, use retaliatory tariffs to support workers, and break down trade barriers domestically and internationally. We’ll strengthen our economy and sovereignty while demonstrating the prosperity and security that comes with being our ally.
How would your government advance Truth and Reconciliation with First Nations?
Our government has pursued every recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and I have worked diligently to build a strong and trusting working relationship with our local Nations. Please review this work at terrybeech.ca/reconciliation.
