No one was hurt, but a Squamish Nation family is out of their home following a house fire in the Eslhá7an community Monday afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m. residents called 911 after spotting smoke coming from the second-floor window of a home on the first block of Forbes Avenue.
“We proceeded with an offensive attack and were able to quickly extinguish the fire and minimize the damage to the property and residence,” said North Vancouver City Fire Department Chief Greg Schalk.
The house does have smoke and water damage, but Schalk said the structure is likely salvageable.
The Squamish Nation’s emergency services department is assisting the displaced residents, Schalk said.
“It’s important to have active and working smoke alarms and if there’s a problem, contact the fire department and get us there as quickly as possible,” Schalk added.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
