For many, the holiday season brightens people up with the joy of giving gifts to friends and family and other festivities.
But sometimes it illuminates people literally. Another way to make your holidays a whole watt of fun is to visit Capilano Suspension Bridge Park as they hold their annual Canyon Lights event starting Nov. 22.
Millions of twinkling lights will surround the park corner to corner in typical holiday colours, while other events in the park will help you get into the festive spirit.
Part of the proceeds from admissions will be donated to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund to support fire and burn education in schools through B.C. as well as Burn Camp. The burn fund was founded in 1978 by a group of firefighters who wanted to help burn survivors beyond the emergency call, their website states.
Firefighters help support burn survivors in B.C. and the Yukon by uplifting survivors through programs, retreats, offering accommodations to survivors and families as well as enhancing trauma care at hospitals across the province.
New this year is a photo spot creating a festive postcard for friends and family. With the Capilano Christmas Tree Lot Photo Spot, people can step into a holiday scene with lush trees, a vintage red truck and a friendly lumberjack bear alongside a rustic barn door backdrop to make it the perfect place for joyful memories.
The park will also have the Winter Rainforest Explorers, where staff will host a holiday market in the “enchanting rainforest.” Children can pick up a festive card at the Treehouse at Treetops Adventure, where they can then go on a magical self-guided quest through the park to collect character stickers and create their own greeting card.
People can also have a merry time with their taste buds by sampling the holiday food and drink menu at the park. The Cliff House Restaurant & Bar will have special festive menu items such as a “frostbite” cocktail, mulled wine as well as a braised short rib and a dark chocolate raspberry yule log for dessert.
Canyon Lights will be on until Jan. 19, 2025. To get into the holiday spirit, people can find more information on capbridge.com to buy tickets in advance.
