Beginning in 1990, West Vancouver artist Gordon Smith began producing a body of work described as “the black paintings” which use text, symbolism and personal content. A selection from this distinctive group of paintings, curated by Ian Thom, opens at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday, Oct. 21 and runs through Feb. 4, 2018.
