West Vancouver Memorial Library hosting Art Project Roadshow

Coast Mental Health exhibit reduces the stigma of mental illness through art

Coast Mental Health is launching its first Art Project Roadshow initiative this month at the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

Sixteen talented member artists from Coast Mental Health will exhibit 40 paintings at 12 community spaces through October, with art displays scheduled for West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Richmond, Langley, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Burnaby.

The project is intended to help shine a light on the need for community-run programming that supports people with diverse needs.

“We designed the Art Project Roadshow to bring attention to the barriers that prevent many of our members from participating in community-run initiatives, such as a local art exhibition,” says Tracy Schonfeld the director of community services at Coast Mental Health. “Building healthy and inclusive communities means developing programs that accommodate a diverse group of people to ensure no one is left behind.”

Coast Mental Health’s largest art program is located at the Resource Centre on Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver. The Art Room is supported by volunteers – including professional artists and art instructors- who give their time, feedback and encouragement to clients with expertise in a number of crafts such as painting and sculpture.
