Starting in the mid-1910s, Charlie Anderson operated the Tipperary Tea Garden at the second canyon footbridge in Capilano Canyon.

Anderson, who arrived in Canada in 1913, had worked previously at another tea garden which was also located for a short time at the footbridge.Tea gardens rose in popularity in the late 19th century to accommodate the rise of day tripping.

The tea garden served as a refreshment stop for many visitors to Capilano Canyon, providing pop, ice cream, afternoon tea and lunches. In 1923 Anderson moved the gardens to 5020 Capilano Road, later selling the business in the late 1940s.
