The Because You Care campaign for the North Shore Family Respite Centre kicked off with an event held Sept. 18 at The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver.
The Health and Home Care Society (Care BC) is a not-for-profit organization which has been operating a Family Respite Centre in Vancouver since 2002. The centre enables the caregivers of seniors, primarily diagnosed with dementia, to get the periods of rest they require to continue to care for their loved ones at home.
In partnership with the City of North Vancouver, Catalyst Community Developments Society, Integra Architecture Inc., Kindred Construction Inc. and Vancouver Coastal Health, the North Shore Family Respite Centre is currently under construction on the corner of St. Georges Avenue and East Second Street in Lower Lonsdale. The building is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025.
The FRC will be located on the ground level of a six-storey tower which will include 89 affordable housing units on the five floors above. The Care BC board has raised $8.5 million of the $12 million project cost. The funds have been contributed primarily by individuals and several foundations.
