Options for volunteers

Volunteers are needed to escort elderly residents to an in-house hairdresser. Shifts are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9: 30 a.m. to noon.

Fitness volunteers are needed to assist with a balance and falls prevention program running at various locations across the North Shore. This program provides practical assistance to seniors. Time commitment is for two one-hour classes per week, sessions run for approximately nine weeks.

Board members: North Shore Community Resources Society, a local non-profit multi-service agency serving infants through seniors, is seeking several new board members. NSCR's board of directors is a policy board made up of 15 members and meets six times yearly. Board members are encouraged to share their experience through occasional committee work. They are currently seeking those with a background in accounting, law, fundraising and affordable housing. Membersat-large are also needed. They strive to have a board of directors that is reflective of the diverse community.

Operations volunteers: A Place to Call Home Society is a recently established North Shore non-profit agency that seeks to accumulate a stock of affordable rental housing for people who work on the North Shore but can't afford to live here. The society is establishing a working board and is seeking expertise in law, accounting, fundraising, grant writing and property management as well as volunteers to assist in the operations of this new agency.

Tea time volunteers: Volunteers are needed to set up tables, make tea and coffee, serve seniors and visit or chat with them. Volunteers are needed for Sundays from 9: 30 a.m. to noon, holidays and on a substitute basis when regular volunteers are away.

Art workshop assistant: Throughout the year the arts council puts on community art workshops at various venues. These workshops invite members of the community to participate in creating art and are often associated with events, traditional holidays and gallery exhibitions. Under the guidance of staff, volunteers will help participants in creating art. Volunteers will also work with children.
