The Metro Vancouver seven-day weather forecast includes ample precipitation without any torrential downpours.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Gary Lee says a series of storms will continue to impact the region starting on Wednesday, March 12, as a low-pressure system coming onshore off the Pacific brings rain to the Lower Mainland with unstable conditions and 30 km/h wind gusting 50 km/h. The rainfall is expected to transition to showers in the evening as the system dissipates.
Showers may continue through Thursday morning and a weak ridge of high pressure is expected to start building around noon, with the possibility of a few sunny breaks in the afternoon. However, the mixed sun and cloud won't last long.
"The next system will be coming in around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m.," he explains, adding that the "weak disturbance" will likely produce lighter showers on Thursday evening and overnight into Friday.
Another weaker system may produce showers on Friday night and into Saturday morning.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes a bigger storm on the weekend
"A bigger storm may arrive later on Saturday producing 10 to 20 mm of rainfall in most parts of Metro Vancouver and 30 to 40 mm near the mountains," he says.
The low-pressure system won't pack the moisture or winds associated with larger storms, such as atmospheric rivers, but it looks juicier than the systems before it. Some light wind may also accompany the storm.
On Sunday afternoon, the rain and wind are expected to ease as the storm moves out of the region. There may be some isolated showers through Sunday night and Monday. However, a ridge of high pressure is expected to build after Monday, producing drier conditions.
"Anything after then is unknown," he notes, hinting that another significant storm pattern may emerge starting mid-week.
Near normal temperatures are expected through meteorological spring - the remainder of March, April, and May - although there isn't strong agreement between weather models.
