The sun should shine in Metro Vancouver on Friday after a very windy and wet Thursday (April 10).
Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven told V.I.A. that a vigorous front moving inland would produce stormy conditions, including wind gusting to 60 km/h in Metro Vancouver and up to 80 km/h in the Fraser Valley.
The department has also issued a special weather statement for the Fraser Valley, cautioning that power outages are possible, as well as dangerous road conditions and hazards to pedestrians from tree branches breaking or loose objects tossed by the wind.
The storm is expected to ease in the late evening on Thursday, and the system should make its way out of the region before Friday morning.
Environment Canada calls for a mix of sun and cloud Friday, with temperatures at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) right around seasonal, with a high of 12 C. The overnight forecast includes a 30 per cent chance of showers.
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes a sunny shift
Erven says a bridge of high-pressure building into Saturday will produce clear skies through the weekend and warmer temperatures headed into next week. This means locals have the chance to view cherry blossoms in bone-dry conditions on Saturday and Sunday.
The meteorologist cautions that some gusty winds are still possible on Saturday, but they won't be as powerful as Thursday's storm.
Sunday through Tuesday's forecast includes a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures climbing up a few degrees by Tuesday, with a high of 15 C expected. For now, Wednesday looks like it may see some showers, but it is still too early to tell.
The long-term Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes above-average temperatures for the remainder of April and May. Environment Canada is also expecting June to show above-normal temperatures, although the rest of the summer is currently unknown.
