The fog of winter has lifted, the first day of spring has arrived and your backyard beckons.
Or perhaps it’s the kitchen reno you’ve been eyeing for years.
For whatever home improvement itch that needs to be scratched, the North Vancouver Home Show is the perfect opportunity to start tackling projects, speak to expert contractors or simply get a sense of the business offerings available in your backyard.
Back for its 22nd year, the home show runs March 21 to 23 at the Karen Magnussen Rec Centre Arena in North Vancouver.
“We’ve been able to really build a consistent following because once people have come to their first show, they find out how convenient it is and how many great, reputable local companies there are out there,” says show organizer Darcy Hope.
Meet local experts and professionals
Dozens of companies and contractors will be available over the course of the three-day event, covering virtually every square inch of your property, inside and out: windows/doors; patio covers; heating and cooling; landscaping; countertops; realtors; painters and so much more.
The event format is open and inviting, with interactive displays and booths that give attendees the ever-critical tactile, face-to-face experience that simply can’t be replicated online or in big-box outlets.
“It's a professional, neutral environment where people can come and feel comfortable in that they aren’t going to be pressured into anything,” Hope says. “It's more a place for people to make that initial contact to set up a future appointment, or to come to the house and do a proper estimate.”

Hope notes that the show’s timing at the beginning of spring is both calculated and proactive. Sure, it’s the time of year when the weather clears and projects get cooking but it’s also an opportunity to plan ahead for seasonal needs such as air conditioning, heat pumps or roof replacements. All of them are must-do jobs and all of them simply can’t be booked on a moment’s notice.
“If you want to put an AC system in for the coming summer, you want to book it in March or otherwise it’s too late,” Hope says. “Landscapers, roofers, electrical contractors, some of them are booking months out at a time, so this is a great event to catch everybody at the right time.”
Maximize savings and sustainability
The show not only makes sense of all things renos and building, it also puts an emphasis on dollars and cents. Which is to say exhibitors will be on hand to help attendees take advantage of special show pricing, government grants and rebates or show them the latest in clean and sustainable tech options.
To that end, advice will be on hand around solar panels, HVAC systems, wall chargers, power walls, rain harvesting systems and more.
“One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is creating a more energy efficient and cheaper home to run – rather than just upgrading one or two things, consumers are combining all these different things to create an entire circular system that saves you money and creates more harmonious connectivity throughout the home,” Hope says.
