Car enthusiasts across the North Shore are busy putting the shine on their vehicles in preparation for this year’s Cruise the Shore for Charity event.

They’ll roll into the Capilano University parking lot at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 and set off at 11:30 a.m. for an impressive cruise through North Shore neighbourhoods. After the cruise on the 24th, participants will meet at 1:30 p.m. at Capilano University for a post-cruise barbeque.

It’s an opportunity to show off their unique, rare, custom, hot rod and collector vehicles, then to come together and celebrate with post-cruise events happening all weekend. And, the excitement doesn't stop there—post-cruise events will keep the party going all weekend.

Then, on Aug. 25 there will be an all-day “show and shine” at The Village at Park Royal from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities and entertainment including Richard Stepp, who’s returning again this year with his History of Rock ‘n Roll show.

Spokesperson Dan London, who has been organizing the event since 2017, says Cruise the Shore for Charity isn’t just for classic cars, and classic car lovers. “The show is an eclectic representation of all sectors of the automobile hobby—rare, unique, classic, custom, hot rod and exotic, ” London explains. “The fun is meeting up with those who bring their cars and have supported this event every year, seeing some new participants, and spending time just talkin' cars.”

The event isn’t just for car enthusiasts either. “We’re targeting the public of all ages,” explains London. And as usual the event is for a good cause, with proceeds from the silent auction and 50/50 draw benefitting TB Vets Charitable Foundations’ Respiratory Program to provide respirators to first responders and hospitals. “[It’s] a chance for North Shore families to see all types of cars within the automobile hobby while supporting a dramatic growing need for respirators in our province, especially those suffering from wildfires,” says London.

With every passing year, interest and awareness of the event has grown and this year London expects over 100 vehicles and 3,000 public attendees at the Aug. 25 show. This is good news because it could also boost interest and participation in the 50/50 draw and silent auction.

“Over the past five events, more than $200,000 has been raised for Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, BC Cancer Foundation and TB Vets Respiratory Program providing benefit to North Shore residents,” explains London. This year proceeds from the auction and draw will once again support TBVets Respiratory Program and London hopes funds will exceed the $105,000 raised in 2023.

London always looks forward to seeing new vehicles and reconnecting with people who’ve supported the event over the years. But what he loves most about Cruise the Shore for Charity is the chance to give back. “My satisfaction is at the end of the weekend when I, on behalf of the volunteers, participants, public, and sponsors, have the opportunity to present a cheque to charity.”

Vehicle registration is $35 and includes the cruise, complimentary barbeque and entrance to the Aug. 25 show at The Village at Park Royal. You can also purchase additional tickets to attend the Saturday pre-cruise breakfast at Tomahawk Restaurant, learn more here
