The global queen of media, Oprah Winfrey, has reportedly spent US8.275 million (CAD$10.7 million) on an island home just a stone’s throw from B.C.’s coastline.
According to a report in Variety, the megastar has bought the 43-acre estate on Orcas Island, one of the four largest islands that comprise the San Juan Islands archipelago between Seattle and Vancouver.
Variety says the private compound, called the Madroneagle Estate, has around 3,000 feet of rugged, west-facing oceanfront, including a secluded beach overlooking the island’s East Sound.
Apparently the estate was made up of two land parcels, and acquired in two transactions that both link to the Oprah Winfrey Network offices, as reported in the archipelago’s online news site The San Juan Islander and celebrity home blog Velvet Ropes.
The home has 7,303 square feet of living space, including four bedrooms and five bathrooms in the main house, as well as a four-bedroom, three-bathroom guest house. The main house has amazing cathedral ceilings and huge entertaining spaces, with vast windows taking in those ocean and island views.
