Dear Editor:
West Vancouver council's recent decision to tear up tennis courts near the community centre is a classic case of taking paradise and putting up a parking lot (WV Courts Become Parking Lot, Dec. 16, North Shore News).
In an age when we are trying to encourage our youth to leave their computers, their video games and their phones for some much-needed exercise, the idea of taking away these amenities and replacing them with parking is nothing short of offensive - especially when the objective appears to be to allow people to drive to work rather than take public transportation or walk.
Given the increase in obesity and its consequences for our youth - and ultimately our health care system - is this really the message we want to send them, that parking lots are more important than exercise facilities?
