Dear Editor:

Surely you must have some important news to run on the front page instead of a story about a shot cat (Cat Paralyzed After Pellet Gun Attack, North Shore News, March 25)?

I do not condone the intentional maiming of any animal, domestic or wild. However, cat owners must realize that allowing their pet to roam freely leads directly to the slaughter of uncountable numbers of small birds and rodents. Also, an outside cat is exposed to many dangers, natural predators, traffic and yes, humans looking for target practice.

If cat owners really care for their pets' safety, they should keep them indoors.
