Dear Editor:

As a home owner, and very concerned citizen in the City of North Vancouver, I feel compelled to respond to the comments made by Coun. Linda Buchanan regarding those of us who show an interest in what is happening in the city.

May I point out to Coun. Buchanan that those of us with the tired old faces are actually made up of a variety of ages and backgrounds, but the one thing we all have in common is a growing feeling of concern about the huge density increase to the city. I am very concerned about the fact that the OCP seems to have no credibility at all, but seems to change at the snap of the fingers by city staff (and council) in favour of developers.

It would appear that Ms. Buchanan is giving mixed messages: on one hand she supports the sale of 11 school properties for development, but seems to think there should be more daycare. Sorry, but how does this make any sense? Is the city building for families, and if so where are they coming from? Very few young families can afford to live in the city.

Perhaps Ms. Buchanan should look at the statistics - average income $50,000, the majority of jobs in the City of North Vancouver (service and retail) with a pay rate between $10.25 and $12 per hour - and then she will realize that those people who will be able to afford to live in the city are not here yet.

In the meantime, Coun. Buchanan owes city residents an apology. Keep in mind that there is a good possibility that the people may not want to see her back on council when the next election takes place.
