North Shore News polled 810 North Shore News readers and asked the question: Should B.C. post-secondary institutions support mandatory vaccination?
The poll ran from Aug. 14 to Aug. 18. Of the 810 votes, we can determine that 288 are from within the North Shore community.
Three-quarters of poll respondents from the North Shore said they favoured mandatory vaccines for students and staff on college and university campus.
On Friday, Santa Ono, UBC’s president and vice-chancellor, voiced support for both mandatory masking and vaccination. In a letter to members of the UBC community, he addressed the implementation of mandatory non-medical masks and vaccines for those returning to campus in September. Ono wrote the use of both precautions would be critical to allow the university to start the term with confidence.
Several Ontario universities have already made COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for those who will be on their campuses this fall.
