Dear Editor:
I am amazed that the mayor and some council members actually agreed with the additional alterations Park Royal wants to make to Marine Drive. I don't care how much money the owners of Park Royal are giving the municipality to implement these changes; because it will be the residents of West Vancouver who will suffer the consequences.
The Park Royal overpasses should not be demolished, because that will only add to the traffic problems we currently have on Marine Drive. Worse still are the proposed additional traffic-lightcontrolled pedestrian crossings, which will force motorists to stop every several yards for pedestrians, who saunter across at will. If council thinks all those who cross, obey the "stop" and "walk" signals, then they obviously do not use that stretch of road, on a regular basis. If anyone is injured or killed because they run across on a red light, to catch a bus, it will not be the fault of the motorist who may have the right of way.
Eliminating the overpass from north to south, will mean those cars will now have to use Marine Drive to go from one side of Park Royal to the other. Thereby, adding to the problem when they are lined up to get into Park Royal's parking lot from Marine Drive, instead of from above Marine Drive, as they used to. This is a nobrainer. Park Royal's proposed large apartment block where the White Spot is currently located, will really add to the mayhem.
I am just one of a few West Vancouverites who actually writes to council. What is required is for all of us, to make our feelings known, which unfortunately is not the case. If we did, then maybe our elected officials might listen. So wake up, West Vancouverites, and claim what is rightfully ours. Park Royal is a great shopping centre, but they do not own West Vancouver - not yet.
