Letter: The optics of a municipal hall coffee bar are bad

No one ran in the West Vancouver election on the slogan ‘Muffins for the Multitudes!’

Re: Savary Island Pie kiosk to be built at West Vancouver municipal hall

Dear Editor:

Will local residents choose the atrium of municipal hall in which to “gather” around the proposed new coffee bar? I didn’t think so.

It’s not likely to be an inviting space, even with the appealing aroma of Savary Island goodies. Rather, this looks to me to be an effort aimed at enticing district bureaucrats to return to their cubicles instead of “working from home.”

I don’t recall anyone during the last municipal election campaign seeking office on the slogan, “Muffins for the Multitudes!”

The optics of setting this coffee kiosk up, with $100K in taxpayers’ money voted behind closed doors for capital costs, while proposing to substantially raise property taxes and the public feeling the impact of price inflation, are very bad indeed.
