There’s a reason why the Capilano University sports teams are both named and coloured in blue. | Adriam Lam / Times Colonist

Dear editor:

Thank you for an excellent article on 50 years of athletics at CapU.

I started teaching at Capilano College the year after it opened, and as I am/was a fitness freak, I got to know Joe Iacobellis as soon as he was appointed athletic director.

I went to his fitness classes, and ran around the track.

When the subject of teams came up, and team colours were mentioned, I suggested that Cap use the colours royal blue and turquoise. It was a tribute to the colours used by Delbrook High School, which had burned down in 1977.

Joe liked the idea and that’s how the “Blues” were born.
