Dear Editor:
We live next to the Kirkstone Park artificial field that is well used by the North Shore girls and boys soccer teams. What is tiresome is the real-time coaching from the sidelines with coaches shouting instructions up and down the sideline all the time during the matches to their teams.
Sure, let’s have parent encouragement, but the kids should be left to play as they were coached, and field-side coaching should be eliminated like they do in many other sports. Then, have a post-game huddle to discuss what went well or badly with the strategy. How else are these kids going to learn to take their own initiative or enjoy the game on their own terms?
