LOWER SACKVILLE, N.S. — One of the children taken to hospital after a house fire in the Halifax area over the weekend has died.
In a statement, Nova Scotia RCMP say the fire early on Saturday morning in Lower Sackville is not considered suspicious.
Police say the child who died was six years old, but they did not release the gender of the victim.
Alyssa Porter, a close friend of the family, says the victim was a girl and that her family and community are heartbroken over her death.
RCMP have said a 37-year-old woman and two-year-old child escaped the burning home and were not injured, and that a 40-year-old man was rescued by a neighbour.
Firefighters had rescued three children — ages five, six and nine years old — and the six-year-old died of her injuries.
