Age: 76
Occupation: retired businessman/City Councillor
List any political party membership(s): Federal Liberals
Do you live in the city? Yes
For how long have you lived in the city? 12 years City, 48 yrs North Shore
Incumbent: Years on council? 7 years
What are your priorities if elected? Slow rate of new development; address traffic congestion; parking; affordable housing; rental units; bus service; new North Van bus depot; new Harry Jerome Community Centre.
Is the city managing growth appropriately? The last four years I have been concerned as a majority of City Council approved virtually every application they considered. Too much density, too fast. We need to slow down rate of development and allow traffic, parks, recreation and cultural infrastructure to catch up. Need better coordination with the District.
Are you open to amalgamating with the District of North Vancouver? Undecided. Only if good for both municipalities. We need a proper study of the pros and cons to get the facts rather than reacting emotionally.
Should the city facilitate affordable housing and if so, how? Yes. Three possible ways: apply our 10/10/in-perpetuity policy for new rental and redevelopments, in cooperation with senior government programs; and with non-profit housing partners.
