A West Vancouver author who released a cookbook/gardening primer has been honoured for her efforts.
Evaleen Jaager Roy won the Surrey International Writer's Conference 2011 Griffin Award for her first book, Four Chefs One Garden, which combines recipes from Vancouver chefs Michel Jacob, Umberto Menghi, Tojo and Vikram Vij with gardening ideas and vibrant photography.
The book received the award because it celebrates multicultural society in Canada through the four cuisines featured, according to a media release. It also had an impact on local society, as proceeds from charity events and partial sales from each book were donated to the YWCA Downtown Eastside Crabtree Corner facility, which provides more than 30,000 meals to local residents and families each year.
Four Chefs One Garden was also nominated for the 2010 Canadian Culinary Cookbook Awards.
