Many of the best amateur boxers in Canada will be squaring off at North Vancouver’s Griffins Boxing and Fitness in the Western Canadian Boxing Championships running Nov. 20-22.
Elite teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will be competing for Western Canadian titles as well as spots in the Elite Canadian National Championships scheduled for April of 2016. The Canadian championships will determine who qualifies for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
North Vancouver’s Nathan Kulczycki, a former national champion, will be returning to the ring for the event in the 69-kilogram class. North Vancouver’s Nathan Royes will also be in the mix at the 60-kg level while Hassan Hamza will fight at 64 kg.
“It would be a thrill to have one of the athletes competing at the Western Championships to be a part of the Olympic team,” said Griffins owner and head coach Dave Brett in a release.
Preliminary and semifinal bouts will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. while the Finals will begin Sunday noon. Tickets will be available for purchase online at griffinsboxing.com or at the door.
