West Vancouver native Nicole Hutchinson won gold in the mile race at the Big East championships held at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., on Feb. 24 and 25.
The 20-year-old junior, who went to Sentinel Secondary, led Villanova University to a podium sweep in the mile, with second and third place going to her teammates Kaley Ciluffo and Lauren Ryan.
Hutchinson also ran the 4x800-m relay with Ciluffo, Kelsey Margey and Rachel McArthur. The quartet won the race by more than 13 seconds over the second place team with a combined time of 8:44.25.
Villanova won the team championship at the meet, claiming the Big East title for the 15th time.
