North Vancouver native Paul Kariya is headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017.

The talented left-winger played 15 season in the NHL for Anaheim, Colorado, Nashville and St. Louis, racking up 402 goals, and 587 assists for 989 points in 989 regular season games.

Kariya also starred for Team Canada at several international tournaments, winning gold at the 1993 World Junior Championships, 1994 World Championships and 2002 Winter Olympic Games and silver at the 1996 World Championships and 1994 Winter Olympics.

Kariya suffered several concussions in his career which contributed to his premature retirement following the 2010-11 season.

Kariya’s long-time teammate Teemu Selanne is also going into the Hall of Fame this year along with Mark Recchi, Dave Andreychuk, Danielle Goyette in the players category and builders Jerry Jacobs and Clare Drake.

This year’s class was announced today, with the induction ceremony scheduled for Nov. 13 at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
