North Vancouver’s Martin Jones pushed aside a ton of shots on his way to pulling in Second Star of the Week honours in the NHL for the week ending April 4.
The 31-year-old goaltender racked up four straight wins for a 4-0-0 record over the week, including earning his 25th career NHL shutout.
Jones started his strong week by putting in some overtime work in a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild, a game that ended with an eight-round shootout. Two days later he tamed the Wild again, stopping 26 of 28 shots in a 4-2 win for the Sharks.
The goalie kept rolling in back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Kings to finish off his big week. The two-game set started with Jones earning a shutout in a 3-0 win over the Kings, his first blank sheet of the 2020-21 season. One night later he stood tall again against his former team and California rivals, making 35 saves in a 3-2 win against L.A.
Jones is in his eighth season in the NHL, two with the Kings and six with the Sharks. This year he has posted a .909 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against average while putting up a 14-8-0-2 record with the Sharks.
