North Vancouver’s Joshua Ravensbergen is getting a look with Team Canada following a breakout season as a goaltender for the Western Hockey League’s Prince George Cougars.
Ravensbergen was one of 42 players invited to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Showcase starting July 28 in Windsor, Ont.
The 17-year-old had an exceptional rookie season with the Cougars, compiling a regular season record of 26-4-1 with a goals against average of 2.46 and a save percentage of .907. He racked up six shutouts, which tied a WHL record for shutouts in a season by a rookie.
He continued his stellar play in the WHL playoffs, posting a 9-2-1 record with a 1.98 goals against average and .931 save percentage. The Cougars won two playoff rounds before losing to the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL semifinals.
The Canadian players invited to the Summer Showcase will take part in practices and intersquad games before facing international teams from Sweden, Finland and the United States in games played in Windsor and Plymouth, Mich.
North Vancouver’s Macklin Celebrini was also invited to the Summer Showcase but will not be able to attend. Celebrini was selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2024 NHL draft.
