Rising star defender Chloe Primerano continues to make history in the hockey world.
On Sunday, the captain led Canada to victory at the 2025 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Vaanta, Finland, with a 3-0 shutout win over the U.S.
As the squad secured its eighth gold medal at the event (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025), North Vancouver product Primerano solidified her spot as the women’s U18 national team’s all-time leading scorer.
In Saturday’s semifinal win over Czechia, she surpassed Caitlin Kraemer as the all-time leading scorer for the Canadian women's U18 team, finishing her career with 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 points total in 21 games with the squad.
The 18-year-old University of Minnesota student was named the tournament’s Best Defender for the second year in a row. Through her two appearances at the U18 Worlds, Primerano racked up 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists. That’s the most points by a defender ever at the event, and a tie with Marie-Philip Poulin for the most points overall by a Canadian at the U18 Worlds.
Primerano was also named to the media all-star team.
Last year, she became the first defender to score a hat trick at the tourney, and was named MVP despite Canada losing in the semifinals.
In 2022, Primerano was taken by the Vancouver Giants in the WHL Prospects draft, becoming the first female skater to be drafted by a CHL team.
The talented defender has previously expressed interest in playing in the Professional Women’s Hockey League, but has not yet gone through the draft system. There currently is no minimum age for the PWHL draft.
Primerano is alumna of the Burnaby Winter Club and North Shore Winter Club programs.
