The North Shore Stars 2000 Rep B girls fastpitch team wrapped up a stellar season by winning the U16 Western Canadian Championships held July 29-Aug. 1 in St. Albert, Alta.
The Stars posted a 7-1 record in the tournament, beating the South Delta Invaders in two straight playoff games, including an 8-1 win in the gold medal final. The championship game was a rematch of the British Columbia provincial final, which the Stars also won.
“The girls were passionate to perform well for themselves and their teammates and I think that passion was what led to their incredible season,” head coach Marty Morrison told the North Shore News. “There were lots of tears after the victory. … It’s tough to explain to someone what a great experience it is to be part of a team, the bonds that these players have formed with each other are stronger than anything. It really is a family.”
