North Vancouver's Keelan White was joined by UBC head football coach Blake Nill for a signing ceremony Tuesaday at Handsworth Secondary where the star wide receiver officially commited to play for the Thunderbirds next season.
The Grade 12 student was one of the prize prosepcts of the 2018 high school football season having previously starred for Team British Columbia and Canada's junior national team. This year White is No. 1 in the province at the AAA level with an average of 128 receving yards per game for the Handsworth Royals. He's caught four touchdowns in four league games and added 166 yards and another touchdown on the ground. White has also added 16 tackles and an interception on defence.
“From a recruiting standpoint, it’s important to protect your local talent pool,” said Nill in a UBC release. “As a staff, we have agreed that Keelan White is one of the top football athletes in the province over the last few years. To get him committed to UBC is an important start to our 2019 recruiting class as it speaks to the level of athlete we are looking to bring into the program.”
As a Grade 11 student last year White was named the offensive MVP of the AAA Pacific Division and also earned a spot on the provincial AAA all-star team.
