The Canucks are going all in for tonight’s victory lap for two of the city’s favourite sons.
In advance of Daniel and Henrik Sedin’s final home game, the club offered up 11 things fans need to know before tonight’s battle for last place in the Western Conference with the Arizona Coyotes.
Doors are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., while the puck drop is 7 p.m.
Here’s what fans need to know:
- A massive 50/50 jackpot will be seeded with unclaimed funds and start at $400,000. Fans are encouraged to buy tickets with cash to expedite the process. Sales close at the end of the second intermission.
- The lights outside Rogers Arena and throughout the city will shine blue and yellow — Team Sweden’s national colours — in tribute to the Sedins.
- Each fan in attendance will receive a #ThankYouSedins commemorative magazine prior to puck drop.
- A tribute mural wall will be installed on the Toyota Plaza for fans to write thank-you messages for the future Hall of Famers. Fans can start signing the wall at noon Thursday.
- Fans can post their favourite memories of Daniel and Henrik on their social media accounts using the hashtag #ThankYouSedins. The posts will be shown on the arena’s videoboard and on canucks.com/sedins.
- The night will include several tributes and vignettes showcasing the twins’ career highlights.
- #ThankYouSedins merchandise will be available for sale at the Canucks Team Store, vanbase.ca and on the Toyota Plaza pre-game.
- The night features the presentation of the 2017/18 player awards throughout the evening, including the Most Valuable Player, Best Defenceman, Most Exciting Player and Unsung Hero.
- A very limited number of vouchers (first come, first served) will also be distributed for fans to take selfies on the concourse with Brock Boeser, Erik Gudbranson, Sven Baertschi, Kirk McLean and Jyrki Lumme from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Autographs will not be permitted.
- The game and special 30-minute pre-game show will air nationally on Sportsnet.
- Happy Half Hour has been extended and will begin when doors open at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m.
“This night is a great opportunity to celebrate not just our fans but the tremendous careers of Henrik and Daniel,” said Trevor Linden, Canucks president of hockey operations, in a news release. “This has been a special and emotional week for many and we're grateful to have the opportunity to say thank you.”
While tonight is the Sedins’ final home game, they will close out their illustrious careers with the Canucks on the road against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, April 7.
