North Vancouver RCMP say a volleyball coach has been arrested and is under investigation for sexually assaulting a youth involved with the team.
Investigators issued a release on Thursday asking for anyone with information about the case – or any other instances – to come forward.
The investigation began in December 2024 when the RCMP received an allegation that a youth had been sexually assaulted by the coach over a period of several years. RCMP arrested a 50-year-old North Shore man on April 3.
Charges have not been sworn yet and the suspect’s name hasn’t been released publicly. He has been released from police custody under court-ordered conditions and must appear at North Vancouver Provincial Court at a later date.
In the meantime, the RCMP are hoping to hear from members of the public who might come forward with more evidence in the “ongoing, complex” investigation.
“The top priority for investigators is to speak with anyone with information that has not yet come forward, to gather all available evidence and to support those impacted throughout this process,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson.
North Vancouver RCMP’s Crisis Intervention Unit will provide support to victims and witnesses of crime and other significant traumatic events. They can be reached 24/7 at 604-969-7540.
Anyone with any information, or who wishes to report, is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP tip line at 236-481-9100.
