ON June 13, North Vancouver's Eugene Wong will be back to defend his title at the 2013 Saputo Vancouver Open Golf Tournament.

Held on the Vancouver Parks Board's three championship public golf courses, this year's event is attracting a full field of national and international players competing for a total purse of $125,000.

After turning pro last July, Wong got off to an impressive start winning three Canadian golf tour events. In August, he pulled off a stunning one-shot win at the Canadian Tour Championship by holing out from 133 yards for eagle on the final hole. He followed that up by winning the Vancouver Golf Tour's premier event, The Vancouver Open, a week later and took the Canadian Tour's final event, the Great Waterway Classic in Ganonoque, again by a single stroke.

This year's field at the Vancouver Open includes Cory Renfrew who finished second in the 2012 CPGA's Victoria Times Colonist Island Savings Open, and Seymour Creek Golf Centre's Brynn Parry, a six-time B.C. PGA Player of the Year.

Canadian PGA Tour players include Ryan Williams, Nick Taylor and James Allenby. Players scheduled to appear from the PGA's Latinoamerica Tour include Chileans Hugo Leon, Horacio Leon and Martin Ureta.

The Vancouver Open takes place June 13June 15 at Vancouver's McLeery, Langara and Fraserview courses. Spectators are welcome. Day tickets are $10 while a pass for the full week is $20, including the Pro-Am on Tuesday June 11 at Fraserview.

It's a great chance to support local golfers and cheer on the North Shore's finest. For information on this and other Vancouver Golf Tour events, check online for tickets, schedules and volunteer opportunities at vancouvergolftour.com.
