High winds for Vancouver are expected tomorrow night.

If you haven't already, it's best to batten down all your hatches right now.

A day after a water spout was spotted off the coast of the Vancouver Airport and a wind event hit UBC hard, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement as high-speed winds are predicted to arrive in the area Monday, Nov. 8.

On their website the federal agency says strong southeast winds gusting up to 110 km/h will hit communities along the Strait of Georgia, Haro Strait and Juan de Fuca Strait. They'll also hit the west side and north end of Vancouver Island, the central coast of the mainland and Haida Gwaii. The big winds are expected Monday night into Tuesday.

For areas in the inner south coast waters winds will be closer to 80 km/h; the special weather statement includes all areas of Metro Vancouver, including areas further from the water, like Maple Ridge and Langley.

"We have a strong low-pressure system in the Pacific Ocean that's approaching Vancouver Island," says EC meteorologist Bobby Sekhon. "It'll bring strong winds for the inner south coast.

"Certainly some strong winds headed into Monday and Tuesday."

High winds are expected to continue through Tuesday.

"The exact track and strength of the weather system is still uncertain. Any changes in the evolution of this system can affect the timing and strength of the winds. As the event nears, wind warnings may be issued," states the Environment Canada wesbite.
